A blessing in disguise- Unconventional strengths of an Over-thinker
My thoughts every time when my friend
is late at the meet-up point, “What was the time we were supposed to meet? Am I
early? Is it actually Xday (whichever day you are reading) today? Am I
over-dressed? Do I know that person? Does that person really exist? Do I exist?
Am I thinking too much? 😆
Hell Yes!!! I am an overthinker.
Are you? If yes, this is for you. If
no, this is for you too (Thinking more is sometimes good for your health).
For Overthinkers, nothing is simple.
Everything is a high-intensity situation. For example, suppose you are hungry
and you have to order something. Now if you are a normal person you will order
that comes to your mind first. But no, we, super thinkers, will include many
factors like!!! Am I very hungry or less hungry? What are all the viable
options? Will they provide cutleries? Hot
or cold food? What is the price? What is the time? Etc etc. 😥😥
Below are the indications that you definitely overthink.
- Asking a lot of questions to self.
- Planning everything and also planning the plans if one fails.
- Taking too much to explain which could be done in a sentence.
- Saying sorry when there is nothing to be sorry about. And by chance, if I hurt someone, I might pour a bucket full of apologies, if not (water) tank on that person.
- Not answering a question right away. Of course, I have to analyze the question and then, all the probable answers to respond.
- “Did I do this right?” is a constant question that I will ask myself and 10 others 😯.
- Taking a good amount of time to complete a task because I want it perfect.
- Rewind the interaction with someone in my mind again and again to analyze the facial expression and body language to make sure I have not offended anyone.
Thinking is already a bad
rap. If you overthink, you will be suggested to put an end to it. Okay! I
understand if you overthink too much then you get super anxious that maybe
lead to mental illness.
E.g.: You think so much
that you forget to wear pants. You think so much that you lock the door with keys inside 🙆. You think so much that you forget what you were thinking 🙇. Now, these are
real problems I accept. Too much of anything is unacceptable. But then, even under
thinking is dangerous. (I hope I can make some sense now)
So, today, I am going to analyze the advantages of
over-thinking because I am tired of thinking,
otherwise.
They
are Creative: Trends in cognitive sciences had published
an article that mentioned that self-generated thoughts (SGT) have a link with
creativity. The most differentiating factor between over-thinker and other
people is imagination. To name a few Issac Newton, Charles Darwin, Kurt Cobain
were Overthinkers. 🙌 🙌
Fact Check: 57% of women are overthinkers. Now I understand the reason women are
creative in nature. Remember the stories - if you are a boy then you will
play cricket or football but if you are a girl then you sing, dance or paint. (No I am not saying anything, don't take any offense please!😑)
They
are not a hasty decision-maker: Adjectives to
Overthinkers- Analytical, Investigative, Indecisive, can all work towards positive prospects. When it comes to making decisions, they carefully
consider all the possibilities with a 360-degree approach. Overthinking
definitely prevents from jumping into impulsive decisions.
They
are always ready: Ask an overthinker, if they are
ready with a plan. (Trust me, they will be ready with not a one but a few).
Take it as an insurance, they never leave a stone unturned. As a result, they
are always prepared for the worst (I am not sure, if for the best). I am
telling you (in a whisper), “You can be an excellent manager if you are a
sensible overthinker”. Why? In adversity or crisis, an over-thinker will
deal better than a carefree person.
They
are inaudible observers: Most interesting part, like others,
over-thinkers consider themselves to be day-dreamers. Wild imagination or
creativity does not come from dreaming, it is actually a skill of observation.
(It comes naturally to Over-thinkers.) They are capable of noticing minor
details in everything. They will always have “Satya ghatana pe adharit”
stories. If you ask them about any problem which they might not have
encountered, yet on the basis of previous instances that happened in front of
them, they can give you patterns and predict the outcome of the events.
I have to confess they have a good memory, Haaah! 😂😂
They
are self-introspective people: How often do
you chill, relax, and reflect on your life? Do you know it is important to have
clarity and focus in the chaotic life? Now, it is a piece of cake for an
Over-thinker. All they need is some time alone to introspect and calm
themselves down. As a result, they improve themselves and bring change in their
life. With the help of self-introspection, they also find ways to respond positively
to a situation rather than letting it consume them.
They are pro in keeping a reflective and positive mindset. They are better writers: Will you like to bet on this? Well, deep thinking, empathy, and compassion definitely make an over-thinker a better writer. Do you think curating thoughts are easy? No. Who is a good writer? A good writer is the one who can channelize their imagination, give attention to detail, and let readers read with the writer’s eyes. [Please comment below if you understood me as a writer.]🙏
To conclude over-thinkers can be their own
best friend or worst enemy depending on the frequency of their thinking.
The moral of the story is YOU, classified as an over-thinker, have superpowers when used in the right manner. It is important to understand that this trait should be used to solve problems, to achieve success, to able to forecast future, and be intuitive. It is not about letting the pessimistic thoughts hover over. If you think reasonably and rationally, you realize that everything that happens may not be because of your actions, blaming yourself by thinking too much will only make you worried and depressed.
So now tell me, "Are you an Over-thinker?"
"All that we are is the result of what we have
thought. The mind is everything. What we think, we become.” – The Buddha
